“You need to network more if you want a better job.”

True. But nobody tells you how.

I tested 3 main ways — and here’s the one that actually works best 👇

1. Comments on Posts (Works the Best)

This feels natural. You see a post → you leave your thoughts.

If the person posts daily → you comment daily.

Not generic “nice post” replies, but with real input.

Add industry-specific angles. If they’re in fintech → bring a mobile banking insight. If they’re in health tech → mention your experience with HealthKit.

It shows you’re not random.

2. Reaching Out (Mid-Level)

If the person doesn’t post, you still need a way in.

But not with “hire me please.”

Here’s what I do:

  • After they accept my connection, I upload their profile into ChatGPT.

  • I ask:

“I want to network with this person, but I don’t want to ask for a referral right away. Instead, I want to add value to them. Please brainstorm 15 different ways I could reach out and add value to them, with email templates for each.”

Austin Belcak - I really like his ChatGPT prompt

Then I add mine personal touch — I like Sandler sales methodology (google it).

I ask ChatGPT to “add a little bit of Sandler” into the message.

And voilà → I have an authentic outreach.

And it gets replies.

3. Cold Email (The Worst)

We’ve all been told to “just email people.”

But here’s the truth: cold email rarely works for devs.

I’ve used outreach tools. Use AI. Did my research.

Got only one response.

It was NO.

The Takeaway

Networking is not about volume.

It’s about relevance.

  • Commenting on posts → builds visibility fast.

  • Smart DMs → build real connections.

  • Cold emails → last resort.

Start with comments. Then DMs. Forget mass emailing.
