"No one reads cover letters anymore."

Truth is, it could 3x your salary.

You know those essays people write to get into Harvard?

That’s basically your cover letter.

Same goal — to show who you are beyond bullet points.

I spoke with 5 HRs.

They all said the same thing:

“We read the cover letter first. Then the resume.”

So why give up your best chance to stand out?

Here’s the structure I used to get replies from top companies:

  1. Start with honesty.

Say why you’re leaving your current job. Be real — they’ll respect that more than buzzwords.

  2. Show them you actually care.

Mention a product update or video you saw. Something only someone who really researched would know.

  3. Match their needs to your past work.

If they use AI on iPad — say how you handled memory issues on iPad before. Make it personal and VERY specific. Don’t be afraid to go into weird details.

  4. Talk like a human.

Don’t list what’s in your resume. Don’t use AI. Instead, explain how you solve problems and support your team.

  5. End with confidence.

Tell them what you want to bring to their team — and say thank you.

Your resume shows your past.

Your cover letter shows how you think.

Use both.
