Networking will give you 10x more opportunities.

Swift Concurrency won't.

My connection on Linkedin posted that they’re hiring an iOS Engineering Manager.

No, I didn’t hit “Apply” right away.

Instead:

– I read the post and full job description

– Watched their YouTube demo of new features coming in September

– Noted why those features might need a new manager

– Used ChatGPT o3 to summarize my thoughts

Then I sent two questions:

– One pain-focused question about the iPad feature

– One non-tech question about the role itself

A few messages later… I got the referral link.

Let’s talk numbers:

Odds of getting hired via referral vs public application? 80% vs 20%.

Swift Concurrency doesn’t get you hired.

Networking does.

In tomorrow’s email, I’ll break down the two exact questions I used.
And, most importantly, why they worked.
