Do you freeze when HR asks: “Tell me about yourself”?

It’s because you think it’s about you. It never will be.

This is how HR looks at this:

AI can help an iOS dev become better.

But AI can’t talk to a scared client on Zoom.

That’s the real reason why they value soft skills.

You won't believe this, but...

That’s why they don’t care if you do snowboarding or painting when they ask “Tell me about yourself.”

They want to see how you will tell your story.

Here’s how I learned that the hard way:

S — Situation

I once asked a client: “Do you want to release this week?”

T — Task

My goal was ONLY to clarify the deadline.

A — Action

He exploded — yelling, upset, offended.

I was confused.

R — Result

But then I realized: He thought I was criticizing the product. He was under pressure. He later apologized.

So I learned: Next time I’ll say: “Can you remind me when the next release is scheduled so I can add it in Jira?”

Lesson: It’s almost never about you.

It’s about making others feel safe.

That’s how you make them choose you.

How would you answer: “Tell me about yourself”?

Send me your answer —

I’ll help you turn it into a STAR story.
